UNI Sphere is formed in 2015 by musicians Eric van der Heijden and René Splinter after helping each other out during solo performances. Mutual friend Andre Stooker suggested that Eric and René should form a band together, as those unplanned collaborations turned out better than expected.

Eric van der Heijden, born in March 1960, in Eindhoven, Netherlands, has an extensive background in electronic music, including solo projects and collaborations with artists like Ron Boots. René Splinter, born in December 1968 in The Hague, Netherlands, developed an interest in electronic music after hearing Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Oxygene’ in 1977. He began creating his own music in 1986 with a Sequential Circuits Pro One synthesizer.

In 2015, van der Heijden and Splinter combined their talents to form UNI Sphere, aiming to produce emotive and atmospheric electronic music. Their sound is characterized by majestic, warm, and melodic compositions that pay homage to the early 1980s electronic music scene.

UNI Sphere’s debut album “EndLess EndeavoR” was released on October 24, 2015. The release was presented during UNI Sphere’s first performance at the E-Day festival at The Enck theatre in Oirschot (NL). This album showcases their ability to craft immersive soundscapes that resonate with fans of classic electronic music.

Their second album, “TempUS,” released in 2021, is a concept album exploring the theme of temporality in life. The album turned out to be well-received and was awarded with the Schallwelle Prize for Best Album International 2021.

UNI Sphere has performed live to bring their studio creations to the stage. Notably, they performed at the Zeiss Planetarium Bochum in Germany on December 30, 2019, guiding the audience through a musical journey of time and space.

The duo’s work has been recognized within the electronic music community, with “TempUS” receiving the Schallwelle Prize for Best Album International 2021, highlighting their impact on the genre.

Through UNI Sphere, Eric van der Heijden and René Splinter continue to explore and expand the horizons of electronic music, creating compositions that resonate with both longtime enthusiasts and new listeners.
